On Becoming Real
One of my favorite stories is that of The Velveteen Rabbit, perhaps because as a child I had a stuffed lamb that I slept with. And after years of loving it, its formerly fuzzy pink velvet ear lining was long gone, it had stitches too numerous to count and had lost the bell from its ear, and its soft fuzzy lambswool had became matted and dirty, even barren in places. Yet I still have that lamb today - and whenever I look at it, I see it as it once was, beautiful and soft and very much loved by the little girl I used to be.
